Fabrizia LanzaFabrizia Lanza is the owner and director of the Anna Tasca Lanza Cooking School located on her family’s 200-year-old agricultural estate in the heart of Sicily. The school, founded in 1989 by her mother Anna in the midst of the Tasca D'Almerita vineyards, has taken off under Fabrizia's guidance, expanding beyond the plate to encourage gastronomical exploration of the Sicilian and Mediterranean landscape. In 2015, Fabrizia launched Cook the Farm, a 10-week educational unit hosting 12 students from around the globe to dive into the rich roots of food in Sicily. Next fall, the School will open its doors to 12 students from the American University in Rome for an intensive 7-day seminar that synthesizes a wealth of knowledge on typical products, practices, agricultural and culinary issues of the area.Ìý

Please join Fabrizia for an introductory talk on this program, introducing herself and the Sicilian landscape. She will touch on current and historical agricultural issues, fundamental questions for the present and the future food system, and explore the narrative of the Mediterranean culture and diet.

The Anna Tasca Lanza Cooking Experience is a farm-to-table cooking school located in Tasca d’Almerita’s 19th century wine estate in the beautiful, remote Sicilian countryside. Courses are taught by Fabrizia Lanza, cookbook author and video maker, the founder, Anna Tasca Lanza's daughter, and chef Michael Sampson. The school is set within the 550-hectare family property, and includes a working farm and extensive vegetable garden, orchard, and herbal garden, all grown according to organic principles.

Anna Tasca Lanza, Fabrizia’s mother, started the school in 1989, breathing new life into Case Vecchie, the traditional 19th century villa set amid the family’s Tasca d’Almerita vineyards. Though Fabrizia left Sicily at 18 to pursue a career in art history and museum curation, she returned in 2006 to cook and tour with her mother. Anna passed away in 2010, but Fabrizia is devoted to making sure her spirit and principles live on through our celebration of Sicilian cuisine and culture at Case Vecchie. Fabrizia is passionate about documenting and preserving the unique cuisine of the island, and about insuring that time-honoured recipes and techniques are not forgotten as our culinary lineage continues to evolve.
